Jerson Fernandes, executive chef, Novotel Goa Dona Sylvia Resort, became the top chef by bagging the Star Chef Award 2019 by the Indian Federation of Culinary Association (IFCA) at the 8th edition of the International Chefs Conference held at Pullman, New Delhi.
At the award function on October 4, Fernandes was also recognized and honoured for the plating demo done on basic plating techniques for the young chefs present at the international conference.
This is the first national award won by Novotel Goa Dona Sylvia in the culinary arts field and the hotel officials said that, Fernandes is the only chef from Goa to win these recognitions all under the same platform. They added that, Fernandes who started his career as a dish washer is today turning out to be the country’s most youngest and successful executive chefs.
A trendsetter, Fernandes is the first chef in south Goa to open a full-fledged vegan bar which got awarded as the best vegan bar in just a month’s time. He was also awarded the best executive chef of the year-2019 by the food bloggers and critics association of India and recognized for his contribution in the culinary arts field in Amritsar, where he received a gold medal and certificate from Thomas Gugler, president, IFCA.
