Twin centuries from opener Shivam Bhambri (148 not out) and captain Manan Vohra (102) saw Chandigarh overhaul Goa’s first innings total of 251 all out, as they reached 310 for 3 at the end of second day’s play of their Ranji Trophy Plate Group match, at GCA Academy ground, Porvorim on Monday. The visitors now lead the hosts by 59 runs.
Chandigarh started Day 2 on a cautious note and added 30 runs for the first wicket in ten overs before opener Arslam Khan was caught by Lakshay Garg off the bowling of SS Prabhudesai for 17. Manan Vohra, former IPL star and Chandigarh’s current captain then joined Bhambri and the duo literally toiled with Goa’s bowling attack to stitch a 201-run partnership for the second wicket. Vohra was at his aggressive best as he clobbered Goa bowlers to all parts of the ground, hitting 12 fours and 2 sixes during his 166-ball 102. Vohra fell to Darshan Misal, caught by Snehal Kauthankar. After the fall of Vohra’s wicket, Goa bowlers heaved a sigh of relief but next man Raman Bishnoi gave a good company to Bhambri who had by now completed his century and set for a big one. Bishnoi however lost his wicket for 29, caught by Garg off the bowling of Amulya Pandrekar. Bishnoi and Bhambri added 75 runs for the third wicket.
At the close of day’s play, Bhambri was batting on a well-made solid 148 and giving him the company was AK Kaushik, who was not out on 4.
Darshan Misal, SS Prabhudesai and Amulya Pandrekar have taken one wicket each.
