CCTV cameras soon in all govt departments

Panaji: Following a number of requests received from its departments and organisations, the government has decided to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all its departments and organisations, in order to bring transparency in the administration and for controlling corruption.

A tender for the supply, installation and commissioning of the CCTV cameras in the government departments, corporations and institutions has already been floated by the Info-Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd (ITG), with November 17 as the last date for online submission of bids.

“The technological advancements in information and communication technology are very rapid and continuous,” adds the tender document, pointing out, “The e-governance application development is in various stages of implementation in almost all state government departments and government organisations.”

“The various government departments and organisations have set up this IT infrastructure for use of e-governance application,” the tended document adds, further stating, “In order to get efficient management of IT infrastructure existing in their offices, a number of requests are received from these departments and organisations.”

“Maintenance of this IT infrastructure is absolutely necessary,” it notes, mentioning, “It is therefore felt that Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd proposes to address the concerns for management of IT infrastructure in various departments and organisations under the government.”

Incidentally, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had recently warned that action would be taken against the government servants, who report late for duty or show lethargy towards carrying out their duties.

Many of the government departments already have CCTV cameras installed in their premises. However, majority of them are non-functional and records of those working in these departments are not maintained.

After installation of the CCTV cameras in government premises, the monitoring would be done through a single control room.
