Ahmadinejad predicts failure of Mideast talks

TEHRAN: The Iranian President, Mr Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that this week’s Mideast peace talks as well as Israel itself were ‘doomed to collapse’ as millions of Iranians were expected to turn out for state-organised anti-Israel rallies.
Iran marks the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan as Quds Day, during which the nationwide rallies are held.

Tainted Pak cricketers opt out of ODI series

LONDON/KARACHI:  Bowing to intense pressure, Pakistan on Thursday  left out Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir from the Twenty20 and ODI series against England but strongly defended them, saying they opted out because of “mental torture” and will get all the support to clear their names in the ‘spot-fixing’ scandal.

NEW YORK:  The desperate quest to find loved ones started just minutes after the massive Haiti quake, as cell phones rang unanswered from beneath the rubble of Haiti’s best hotel.
 While a lucky few were eventually rescued, many more perished when the hotel crumbled within seconds.
