India to host global meet on road safety

NEW DELHI: With India accounting for over 10 per cent of global deaths in road accidents each year, about 1,000 road safety experts from 30 countries are to meet in the national capital next month to discuss ways to cut down on such fatalities.

NEW DELHI: Mining operations in all the 90 mines in Goa were on Friday ordered to be halted by the Supreme Court on the basis of the Justice M B Shah Commission report, which estimated a whopping ` 35,000 crore loss to the exchequer due to illegal mining in the last 12 years.

Govt unveils second phase of reforms

NEW DELHI:  The government on Thursday unleashed a second wave of reforms deciding to open the pension sector to foreign investment and raising the FDI cap in insurance to 49 per cent, undeterred by opposition to its decisions on FDI in retail and threats to block these legislations.
