Rs 2,000 cr worth scrap jewellery lying idle in Goa

PANAJI: Goa is estimated to hold scrap jewellery worth Rs 2,000 crore lying idle in households, temples and churches since Portuguese era. This is only a trickle of Rs 50,000 crore worth of the scrap jewellery lying untapped with the rest of Indian households, said gold jewellery and bullion experts at the India International Gold Convention.

Ambelim VP meet extends support to Velim villagers

MARGAO: The gram sabha of the village of Ambelim, which met on Sunday, in a show of support for their counterparts in Velim village, adopted a resolution supporting the resolution adopted by the gram sabha of Velim panchayat, in opposing the land acquisition proceedings for the purpose of setting up a fish mill in the jurisdiction of the Velim village panchayat.

Kelekar cremated with state honours

PONDA: Jnanpith Award winner and noted Konkani litterateur, Ravindra Kelekar’s mortal remains were consigned to flames with the state’s guard of honour at his Nagar-Priol, (Ponda taluka) residential courtyard on Saturday afternoon. He was 85 years old and breathed his last on Friday morning after a prolonged illness resulting from age-related complications.
