Transport dept toughens stance against overloading

PANAJI: Toughening its stance against ore overloading, the transport department has, on Tuesday, issued fresh notices to all mines not to allow any overloaded truck to leave the mine head even as 37 trucks were issued challans for overloading or carrying the additional planks on their bodies.

SEC to propose amendment to election legislations

Hospitality sector gets a raw deal

PANAJI: The hospitality industry in the state has criticised the proposal of the Union Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee for levying 10 per cent service tax on accommodation in hotels charging room rent of Rs 1,000 and above and air-conditioned restaurants with bar services saying that it would deal a very heavy blow to the sector in the state.

Mining trucks to go off roads from today

PANAJI: The mining truck owners will go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday by keeping their vehicles off the roads as the talks with the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat failed to break the ice on the stand-off between the transport department and them over the issue of overloading of vehicles.
