Cabinet likely to decide on RTE Act implementation today

PANAJI: The state cabinet is likely to take a decision on implementation the Right of Child to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, in Goa on Thursday and if the proposal of the education department is approved then from the ensuing academic year (2011-12), no student would be detained in any class from first to eighth standard, as provided in the Act.

Govt enters into formal agreement with Arihant

PANAJI: The government scuttled an attempt by some "companies" to create another hurdle in removal of the River Princess, who proposed to buy the scrap of the vessel without participating in the tendering process at a "higher" rate, by rejecting the proposal and entering into a formal agreement with the management of the Arihant Ship Breakers for removal of the vessel and sale of its scrap.
