Commercial taxes dept records rise in revenue

PANAJI: The government decision to increase the Value Added Tax (VAT) from 4 per cent to 5 per cent for the goods mentioned under Schedule "B" together with better monitoring and tight recovery system has helped the department of commercial taxes to collect Rs Rs 759 crore during the first six months of the financial year 2010-11 as against Rs 603 crore during the same period during the last financial year, as per the provisional figures.

Excise dept suspends licences of distillery at Suktolem

PANAJI: The excise department has suspended all the licences, including that of manufacturing, packing etc, of Tetraqueen Distilleries, based at Suktolem near Mollem and booked cases of duty evasion against its owners and an excise inspector, Mr Kamlesh Mhajik, attached to the distillery has been placed under suspension pending enquiry.

Voters’ finger prints to be recorded for Valpoi by-poll
