Goa Lokayukta Bill sincere effort to curb graft: Hegde

PANAJI: The Karnataka Lokayukta and the member of the joint drafting committee on Lokpal Bill, Mr Justice N Santosh Hegde, has said that Goa Lokayukta Bill was a sincere effort to curb corruption but, that it needed to be made up to date and all the anomalies pointed out by the central ministries rectified to provide it more teeth and tackle corruption in the state.

GMC doctor placed under suspension

PANAJI: The Goa Medical College authorities, on Monday, issued an order placing Dr Venita Pereira, a senior resident of the obstetrics and gynaecology department, under suspension in the case of alleged medical negligence when finger tips of a child were cut while she performed caesarian section.

Need to educate migrants for achieving 100% literacy: Naik

PANAJI: Fees charged by private schools have increased almost 160 per cent according to a study, and expenditure to send a child to school which cost parents Rs 25,000 per year in the year 2000 has risen to Rs 65,000 a year in 2008  in addition to the tution fees of Rs 35,000 a year, said Mr Shantaram Naik, MP, in Valpoi, on Saturday.
