Mapusa : The famous five-day jatra of lord Bodgeshwar began with religious fervor in Mapusa on Saturday. The jatra of lord Bodgeshwar who is considered as the guardian of Mapusa is a very popular festival of North Goa and is attended by people of all walks of life. Bodgeshwar jatra is observed on Paush Shukla Paksha Chaturdasi or the fourteenth day during the waxing phase of the moon as per Hindu lunar calendar followed in Goa.
The annual jatra attracts scores of devotees to the temple in Mapusa. The popular belief is that the deity is a wish fulfilling deity and prayers never go unanswered. Special lighting arrangements are made for the annual festival. On Thursday afternoon the pooja was preformed followed by mahaprasad where hundreds of people took the benefit.

The authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival. The Mapusa civic body has made adequate arrangements like providing toilet facility for visitors, garbage bins for effective garbage management.
