MARGAO: Bharatiya Janata Party yuva morcha has demanded immediate commencement of the Rs 14-crore worth sewerage work at Comba before the model code of conduct comes into force.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Sharmad Raiturkar said that the people of Comba have been suffering due to the overflowing sewage and the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had taken cognisance of the problems faced by the people of Comba following which the PWD had prepared an estimate of Rs 28 crore.
Raiturkar said that the project has already been tendered and work order issued, and hence the work should commence immediately before the enforcement of model code of conduct for the ensuing parliamentary elections while monsoon is also fast approaching. Raiturkar warned that the people of Comba will not tolerate attempts to change the demography of the area and said that they will oppose the proposed 93 housing units said to be meant for rehabilitation of 11 families who lost their land for the ring road project at Comba.
He said it has been learnt from the PWD that the 4000 square metres of land which was acquired by the department cannot be transferred to the housing board corporation for the rehabilitation process, adding that, the 11 land losers should be properly rehabilitated. On the issue of ring road, he targeted the Congress MLA and former chief minister Digambar Kamat claiming that it was not properly planned and so will not provide much relief to commuters as the three bottlenecks from Nuvem junction to Colva circle have not been addressed while the western bypass will cater to the inter-city traffic which will not have to enter Margao.
