KARWAR: The Bharateeya Janata party unit of Karwar has criticised the Congress leaders for shedding crocodile tears towards Seabird land losers by submitting the memorandums.
Mr Rajesh Nayak, the president of Karwar City unit of BJP in a press statement has criticised Congress leaders for submitting a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada for the speedy distribution of the compensation for the seabird evacuees.
Mr Rajesh Nayak said that it was strange that the defense department headed by the minister of Congress party is reportedly contemplating of filing a revision petition against the recent Supreme Court order which had upheld the judgment of the lower court. The lower court had hiked the compensation of Seabird project land losers from `150 per gunta to `11,500 per gunta of land. Instead of submitting the memorandum to the deputy Commissioner the Congress leaders should prevail upon the central government not to appeal against the Supreme Court order, Mr Nayak said.
The former prime minister late Rajeev Gandhi along with his wife, the Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi had laid the foundation stone for the Seabird project at Karwar. Later the land was acquired by the state government amid the resistance of the local people.
Mr Mallikarjun Kharge, the Union Labour Minister and the Uttara Kannada district in charge of Congress party was the revenue minister of Karnataka when the land was acquired by using the police force. Later the successive central and state governments led by Congress opposed the hike in the compensation and filed petition in different courts against it.
Even after the final verdict, the defense department led by Mr A K Antony is contemplating of filing the revised petition in the Supreme Court, to nullify the present Supreme Court order. This itself indicates how Congress was responsible for the misery of the Seabird land losers, Mr Nayak stated.
Mr Rajesh Nayak alleged that Mr Satish Sail, the KPCC member along with some of his followers were trying to misguide the Seabird evacuees by handing over the memorandum for speedy distribution of the compensation which was already blocked by the defense department. He demanded that Mr Satish Sail should accept his mistake and immediately submit the resignation to the Congress party.
Mr Nayak warned that party would protest against the Congress leaders if they do not stop misguiding the land losers.
