Bagayatdars across state to remain shut for two days: Savaikar

Following the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s announcement to open the grocery store across state, thousand of people thronged in to various stores of Ponda to make their purchases on Friday,  throwing  COVID – 19  precautions to the  wind.

The Goa Bagayatdar one of biggest super Store in Ponda witnessed mad rush, with hundreds of people queued even before the opening of the store. 

Queue to the Bagayatdar had become almost kilometre long with people standing on road till Sangam bakery from Bagayatdar store at Upper Bazaar. Though only 10 people were allowed at a time in the store, people did not follow social distancing protocol and also ignore wearing mask, risking lives of the people and also of the staff working in the store after which the  store was closed by afternoon, officials said.

Taking note of the same the Goa Bagayatdar management has decided to closed down the stores across state for next two days. 

“Considering the overcrowding done by the people to make purchases and unavailability of packed material, Goa Bagayatdars across state will remain shut for coming two days and after review meeting, further decision will be taken”   Narendra Sawaikar,  Chairman of Goa Bagayatdar said while speaking to this daily.When asked about the home delivery system of Goa Bagayatdar, Chairman Sawaikar expressed that presently Bagayatdar is no position to start home delivery effectively, but if any party/organisation approach us for the same, we can assist, he said.
