CANACONA: A tanker, carrying 20,000 litre of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), proceeding from Mangalore to Vasco, skidded off the road and overturned, resulting in the leakage of jet fuel on NH17 at Partagal, Canacona. The mishap took place on Thursday midnight.
It is learnt that the driver lost control of the vehicle (TN-03-P-3901) at a sharp turn here.
Canacona fire station personnel team, led by leading firefighter M Lolyekar and comprising Anandu Velip, R Devidas, Vishal Mandrekar, Molu Velip, Constantine Colaco and Ganesh Naik, under the supervision of Francisco Mendes, rushed to the spot and used 80 litre of AFFF foam and one fire tender and blanketed the fuel from catching fire.
The fire personnel have estimated the loss at Rs 20 lakh, informed fire station officer Francisco Mendes. He said that timely intervention led to saving property worth Rs 18,00,000.
DySP Sammy Tavares visited the site along with Curchorem PI Ravi Desai and Canacona PI Filomeno.
The driver of the vehicle Porkodi Langamani and the cleaner G Vignesh, both from Tamil Nadu, were injured in the accident. After referring them to the Canacona CHC, they were shifted to Hospicio hospital at Margao for further treatment, informed Canacona PI Costa.\
