ARPORA : The work of rebuilding the Tambodki bridge near Mackie Saturday bazaar, which was a long-pending demand, will be started this month and its estimated cost is Rs 4.75-crore, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has said.
Speaking to the media during an inspection along with officials of PWD water section and electricity department, Lobo informed that the bridge work will be completed in three months. He also revealed that the foundation stone for the bridge was laid one year back by the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar but it got delayed as people had requested to keep the work pending due to the tourist season.
Lobo said, “GSIDC has already assigned the work to a contractor. The bridge will be of one span having two pillars on either side. The work will be completed in record time of three months latest by June. The present bridge is in dilapidated condition and is quite narrow considering that it is the main bridge connection Arpora-Baga and shortcut to Baga-Calangute and many tourists ply along the road.”
Arpora panch Agostinho D’Souza said that the soil testing has been completed. Electricity executive engineer Joseph Fernandes said that the work of shifting the high tension wires will take 15 to 20 days and an estimated expenditure of around Rs 5 lakh will be incurred.
