Another truck mishap at Peddem-Mapusa

Mapusa: A third accident has been reported involving a truck on national highway at Peddem-Mapusa over confusion that occurs due to diversion. The highway is presently undergoing widening. A container truck proceeding towards Guirim fell on its side as the driver got confused over diversion in absence of streetlights and proper signboards.

The truck went straight ahead instead of taking a left turn and drove over mud dumped for expansion work that resulted in the vehicle falling on one side.

Luckily, no casualty was reported.  Commuters claim that the mishap happened as there are no proper streetlights and vehicles, driving with high beam lights on, add to the problem.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had inspected the entire highway stretch from Patradevi to Bambolim which is undergoing widening and directed the contractor and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to put in place safety measures, but in vain.

Earlier, two accidents were reported on June 11 and June 25 wherein two trucks overturned along the roadside after drivers lost control over the vehicles.
