Chants of ‘Jai Shivaji, Jai Bhawani’ echoed at Amona where the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated with traditional fervour. On the occasion, a statue of Shivaji, the first and only statue of the legendary Maratha warrior to be installed in water, was unveiled.
Every year on February 19, Shiv Jayanti or the birth anniversary of Shivaji is celebrated widely in Maharashtra and parts of Goa. The warrior-king not only revived ancient Indian traditions and conventions, but was also instrumental in creating a progressive civil rule.
Present on the occasion was wife of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Sulakshana Sawant. Addressing the gathering, she praised the efforts of those involved in the installation of the statue that celebrates the life and times of Shivaji. A cultural programme was also held, as part of the celebrations.
