Ambelim have it easy against Varca

A strike each from Simon Dias, Samson Simoes and Rolf Fernandes enabled Ambelim SC register an easy 3-0 win over Varca SC and enter the quarterfinals of Cuncolim Union Trophy, at Cuncolim grounds on Friday.

All the goals came in the second session as the first half, which was fought very closely, saw no goals despite Varca SC getting atleast four opportunities which they muffed up.

The second session saw Ambelim SC enter the field with renewed ideas as they preferred playing the ball low and keeping their defence very tight. The ploy paid rich dividends with Simon Dias finding the mark in the 46th minute, as he ran solo before beating Varca SC keeper Mohammad Sheikh with a stiff grounder.

Ambelim then went into top gears keeping the Varca defenders stranded on sheer speed and slicing passes. Varca SC defender Quelon Alemao and Columban Noronha tried to contain the marauding Amebelim strikers, but in vain.

Ambelim SC buttressed their lead in the 58th minute following a good move on the left flank wherein medio Simon Dias dodged two rival defenders and deftly passed the ball into the box to Samson Simoes, whose angular shot crashed to the far end of Varca SC nets.

Varca SC strikers Jonnas D’Costa and Dylan Lima tried two shots at the Ambelim goal but their keeper Myron Pereira nullified their attempts.

Ambelim SC rounded off the tally with a superb strike from Rolf Fernandes, who on collecting a pass from Samson Dias, bulged the nets with a cracker of a shot.
