Albino nets hat-trick as PY Nuvem sink Curtorim Gym 3-0

MARGAO: A superb hat-trick by nippy striker Albino Pereira helped Parish Youth, Nuvem sink Curtorim Gymkhana 3-0 and march into the semifinals of the 43rd Custodio memorial football tournament, at panchayat grounds, Raia on Sunday.
The Sunday holiday crowd that had thronged to witness the proceedings between these two well-known team were treated to a feast of goals in which Parish Youth’s Albino dazzled scoring three goals in a row, as he found the mark in the 12th, 55th and 59th minute.
The match began on a fast note with both the teams showing a lot of promise in the initial stages. The ball rolled on from one end to the other for the first 11 minutes of play and then suddenly Albino scored with a 20 yard shot that crashed to the far end of the nets, giving no chance at all to Curtorim keeper Custodio Peixote.
Curtorim keeper then bungled midway into the first session when he charged out of the box and in the process of preventing Nuvem midfielder Myron Borges from negotiating into the box, hit his leg straight at him thus earning the red card from referee Jose Dias. As a result of which
Curtorim had to replace Custorio with Johnson Bhagat who could not prevent the determined Nuvem striker Albino Pereira from running riot.
Curtorim then lost the rhythm as well as the flow and their citadel caved in under slightest pressure with Nuvem making most of the chances they received with striker Albino Pereira scoring again to beat Johnson Bhagat quite easily in the 55th minute.
Within the next four minutes, Albino was at it again and this time he drew Johnson out to slam the ball into the nets to complete his hat-trick in the 59th minute.
Curtorim tried to find the mark on couple of times but all their efforts went in vain as Nuvem keeper Francis Fernandes brought off some smart saves. Parish Youth, Nuvem will next meet UC Nerul in the semifinals scheduled on July 25.
Nial strike sends Ambelim into semis
MARGAO: Nial Cardozo’s gentle tap from close into the nets was enough for Ambelim SC to register a solitary-goal win over a fighting Murmugao Council United SC, Vasco and enter the semifinals of the 29th Benaulim Soccer, played at St John, de Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Suinday.
Nial scored the all-important goal in the very 5th minute of play which proved to be the match winner. The goal came off as Samson Fernandes raced down the left flank and crossed the ball to Nial who intelligently tapped it to beat the Mormugao Council keeper Dharshan Ambre.
Mormugao were unfortunate not to get the equaliser when a powerful strike by Rohit Mesta hit the post. As time ticked by Ambelim SC played a defensive game and held on to their slender lead to enter the semifinals. They will take on Navelim Sporting in the semis.
