Agriculture dept targeting 200 tonne of vegetables this year: Tawadkar


CANACONA: Agriculture Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Thursday said that under the programme – Agri-Officer at Doorsteps of Farmers, 15 officers of Canacona zonal office visited around 38 wards of the farmers in  four panchayats of Gaondongrem, Cotigao, Poinguinnim and Shristhal, to know their difficulties and provide them guidance so as to boost the production of the vegetables they grow.

Various agriculture schemes were explained to the farmers, and even forms pertaining to the schemes have been provided to them.

As many as 1,500 farmers took the benefit of the programme.

Speaking further, Tawadkar said that after the implementation of vegetable schemes, during the first year (2012-13) they achieved a target of 17 tonnes of produce, in 2013-14 it shot up to 57 tonnes and in 2014-15, the yield touched 150 tonnes, and this year they are targeting 200 tonnes.

“The 150 tonne of produce comprised of vegetables like chillies, bhendi, long gourd, brinjals etc.”

He said that vegetable vendors can get a subsidy of Rs 80,000 for boosting produce without producing any documents. The subsidy is provided for carrying out fencing, leveling, and purchase of machinery etc.

Others present were agriculture director Ulhas Pai Kakode, agriculture officer Satyawan Desai and ZAO Canacona Shivram Gaonkar.

Earlier, different officers, who visited the different places in the four panchayats, gave the account of the work they did.
