MARGAO : A social activist Rajeev Gomes, on Tuesday, said that Margao Municipal Council (MMC) should calculate the cost of garbage collection and disposal, based on the number of households in its jurisdiction. Gomes demanded that the High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) and the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) should collectively take up the exercise and create data for the civic body to fix the garbage collection fees.
“Till date, the Margao Municipal Council has failed to conduct a survey and create a database of inhabited houses within its jurisdiction. Without such database, how has the Margao Municipal Council and the HPCC arrived at a monthly fee of Rs 50? What is the criteria applied to fix this fee?’’ he questioned.
He added that the HPCC meeting appears to be a disguised attempt to skirt the very issue and escape public scrutiny.
“Citizens of Fatorda and Margao expected the HPCC to churn out a time-bound solution. But, the meeting has left citizens more disappointed than ever,’’ he added.
