The Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Directorate of Vigilance has filed chargesheet in the August 2018 alleged bribery case against police sub inspector Anand Narvekar while the police constable Sachin Naik has not been named as an accused as there is no evidence against him. Police said that during the course of investigation Naik’s involvement in the case was ruled out. Police have relied upon 36 witnesses in the chargesheet that has been filed before the Special Court, Panaji.
It may be recalled that in August, 2018 the ACB had arrested PSI Narvekar and PC Naik during a raid conducted in the GMC premises at Bambolim. They were later released on bail. The bribe amount was said to be around Rs 3000.
Referring to the case, ACB officials had said that PSI Narvekar had allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 in order to dilute charges in a criminal case that was under investigation at the Valpoi police station. The money was demanded from an accused in the criminal case, who subsequently filed a complaint before the ACB. PSI Narvekar was attached to Valpoi police station.
