A festival for the youth

The seventh Yuva Jagruti 2020 was recently held in Panaji. The event, conceived and executed by Abhivyaktee Panaji, in collaboration with Institute Menezes Braganza was sponsored by Goa State Biodiversity Board. The half-day event witnessed an attendance of over 300 youngsters.

Four competitions were held simultaneously in the first half of the day. For school level, poster making and singing competitions were held. The topic for the poster making competition was ‘Ego versus Eco’.

For higher secondary and college level, a street play at Azad Maidan as well as extempore speech competitions was held. The topics for the same were related to today’s youth and the environment. A total of 19 schools and nine colleges participated in the event.

In the speech competition, the first place was won by Andrea Sequeira; the second place was won by Ashish Yadav; while the third place was won by Radhika Keni. The consolation prizes in this category were won by Viddesh Padiyar and Vinidhi Laad. The judges for this competition were Mohan Girap and Rakhee Khandeparker.

In the street play competition, the first place was won by students of Goa College of Engineering; the second place was won by students of Nirmala Institute of Education while the third place was won by students of Institute of Hotel Management. The consolation prizes in this category were won by Smt Chandrabhaga Tukoba Naik Higher Secondary School and Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts and Commerce. The judges for this competition were Aishwarya Nayar and Vaibhav Kavlekar.

In the poster making competition, the first place was won by students of Sarvodaya Educational Society High School; the second place was won by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya while the third place was won by students of The Rosary High School. The consolation prizes in this category were won by St Rita’s High School and Mushtifund High School. The judges for this competition were Anagha Deshpande and Kranti Chari.

In the singing competition, the first place was won by students of Sarvodaya Educational Society High School; the second place was won by students of Bloomz International High School while the third place was won by students of Immaculate Heart of Mary High School. The consolation prizes in this category were won by LD Samant Memorial High School and St Aloysius High School. The judges for this competition were Mukesh Ghatwal and Snehal Gurav.

Earlier, the festival was inaugurated at the hands of secretary of Abhivyaktee, Geeta Mangeshkar; member of Institute Menezes Braganza, Ujwala Kamat Tarkar and member secretary of Goa State Biodiversity Board, Pradip Sarmokadam. The winners were awarded cash prizes at the hands of chief guest, Santosh Kumar, Pradip Sarmokadam and the president of Abhivyaktee, Sandip Deshpande, in the concluding ceremony which also included a cultural programme by the youth, members of Abhivyaktee and dancers of ‘Sudha Kala Prangan’.
