The convenor of Bharitya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) Prof Subhash Velingkar has warned the government to face consequences if the Medium of Instruction (MoI) issue was not sorted out by October 2, 2016. Velingkar further said that the agitation by BBSU over the said issue will continue till their demand is fulfilled.
Velingkar was addressing a public meeting on late Saturday evening organised by BBSM at Shri Mahamaya Devi temple premises, Mayem- Bicholim.
He came down heavily on the then chief minister Manohar Parrikar and alleged that despite giving assurance to the people over MoI issue, the BJP government has fooled the people by continuing government grants to primary English schools.
Educationist Pandurang Nadkarni, Uday Bhembre, Arvind Bhatikar, Pundalik Nayak, Fr Mousin Ataide, Nagesh Karmali, Karapur sarpanch Aryan Gaonkar, panchas Jayashri Tari, Dhiraj Sawant Pratiksha Mishal, Kashinath Mayekar, Kamlesh Bandekar, Shrikrishna Dhond and others were present on the on the occasion.
Pundalik Nayak, expressed confidence that the agitation by BBSM will compel the government to resolve the MoI issue to stop government grants to English primary schools.
He said that it is not the question of parents’ choice of language for their children’s education but it is a matter of principle and hence government should fulfil the demand of BBSM.
Arvind Bhatikar, Nagesh Karmali, Swati Kerkar and others spoke on the occasion.
Earlier a procession of Goddess Shri Saraswati Devi was taken out starting from Poira village to the meeting venue where it culminated. A road drama was staged by youth activist.
Dhiraj Sawant welcomed while Mukesh Mhambre delivered an introductory speech.
