Chinchinim sarpanch Santos Rebello, on Friday, said that the village panchayat is going slow on initiating action against the encroachers on the footpaths on humanitarian grounds.
Rebello said, “We do not have a market place hence removing the encroachers will result in they losing their livelihood. It is easy for the panchayat to initiate action but if we remove them then I do not have an alternative place to shift them.”
He said, “Once the market complex is completed we can shift them there and the matter will be resolved.”
Meanwhile, Cuncolim police inspector Gurudas Kadam said that he will deploy policemen at the market to regulate the traffic.
He said that at first “we will try to sensitise the people and warn them before beginning to book cases.”
He said that the participation of the villagers is important.
“We always say that in foreign countries system is in place, but that is because the people there participate in the enforcement of law,” he added.
