8th edition of Vande Mataram Mahotsav to be held on August 25


In order to inculcate patriotic spirit among students Dr K B Hedgewar School, Cujira – Bambolim along with its Parent Teacher Association, the Directorate of Art and Culture and Kala Academy will organise the 8th edition of All Goa Inter-School Vande Mataram Mohatsav on August 25 at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hall, Kala Academy at 9.30 a.m. The festival will be inaugurated by senior musician, Ramesh Sukhtankar.

Speaking during a press conference at Kala Academy, headmaster of Hedgewar High School, Vilas Satarkar said: “For the last seven years we have been organising this event and we have been getting a good response. This year there are three competitions namely group signing competition, poster making on the theme of ‘Vande Mataram’ and a written quiz competition on the life of Indian national heroes.” So, far 72 schools have confirmed their participation in the mahostav.

Director of Art and Culture, Gurudas P Pilankar also extended his support to the event and said that the department will support all kinds of activities to promote art and culture in the state.

Member of organising committee, Subhash Dessai also said that today students are not aware about our freedom fighters and social activists who fought for India’s freedom, and through this competition they will be able to study the lives of 10 national heroes of India and thus enrich their general knowledge.

The final round of the group signing competition will be held at 4 p.m. and the prize distribution will be held at 5 p.m. at the hands of the Governor of Goa, Mridula Sinha.

The school winning the first place at state level will be awarded with a rolling trophy, certificate and cash prize. The runner-up will also be awarded a trophy, certificate and cash prize. Three prizes will be awarded to the winners of both districts for group signing competition. The first five winners of the quiz and poster competition will also be awarded trophies, certificate and cash prizes.
