Six minor boys were among eight persons arrested by the Verna police on Monday for their alleged involvement in theft of two-wheelers from various parts of the state and from Karnataka.
As per information from Verna PI Sandesh Chodankar, two persons major in age Suraj Kokate, a resident of Tankowado-Velim and Clive Castana, a resident of Virabhat-Curtorim were nabbed from Loutolim and Betul respectively during the wee hours on Monday. Verna police also nabbed 6 minor boys for their alleged involvement in bike thefts. Verna police team was assisted by South Goa District Investigation unit.
“The accused are involved in thefts of 5 bikes including 4 motorcycles and 1 scooter from various parts of the state including from Verna, Ponda, Mapusa and Margao. The accused persons are also involved in theft of a bike from Belgaum- Karnataka,” disclosed Verna PI Chodankar.
He suspected that more persons could be involved in the thefts of two-wheelers and the police are investigating whether any inter-state gang is behind the theft of two-wheelers. “The total estimated cost of the stolen bikes is around Rs 5 lakh,” added Verna PI Chodankar. The six minor boys have been sent to Protective Home at Merces. Verna police have registered a case under Section 379 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and are further investigating the case.
