MARGAO/CURCHOREM: State forest department officers on Thursday arrested six persons for poaching frogs in different parts of Goa. Three persons were arrested at Gudi-Paroda and two were arrested at Fatorda in Salcete, while another person from Nuvem was held in Netravali in connection with the poaching. Altogether, 103 frogs, a torch and other material were recovered from the accused.
In a raid conducted at Gudi Paroda, Figiras Rodrigues, his son Salvin Rodrigues and Glen Fernandes were arrested by the officers and 13 frogs were recovered from them, while during the raid conducted at Fatorda, Neves Barbosa and Alisten Pereira were arrested and 50 frogs recovered from them.
Forest officers from Sanguem arrested one Fralino Francisco Borges from Nuvem for poaching frogs at Zamgall in Netravali. According to range forest officers Mohan Naik and Mahadev Teli, the accused was found with 40 frogs in his bag. They said that three other accused fled the site.
According to sources, some more persons were also engaged in the poaching of frogs and the forest department officers are conducting an inquiry into the matter.
