Carnival in the city will be flagged off on February 22 and the float parade will start from Adil Shah Palace to Kala Academy, said city mayor, Uday Madkaikar.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Madkaikar along with CCP commissioner, Sanjit Rodrigues said although the traffic police had brought objection due to the traffic congestion, the CCP was firm on holding the parade on the old route.
The Mayor said that they had a meeting with the collector north and had a lengthy discussion on the diversion of traffic, adding all the concerned officials would be meeting again with the collector in this regard.
He said there will be 500 ticketed seats reserved for special guests from hotels, tourists and other individuals and would be sold for Rs 500 each at the CCP counter from Thursday onwards. In this regard special Shamianas have been erected opposite the Captain of Ports and opposite Hotel Mandovi.
There will be a CCP float specially designed by renowned artist and president of the carnival celebration committee, Francisco Martins whose floats had bagged prestigious awards in the past.
He said the theme for the carnival will be “Goa is a wedding destination” to attract tourists. The Samba Square will have different programmes for children like mask painting, face painting etc. There will be food stalls where drinks would be served.
