Will FC Goa make it to the finals?

After defeating Mumbai City, FC Goa will play the second leg of the semi-finals today at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. With an advantage of 5 away goals the Gaurs are an inch closer to making their second appearance in the Indian Super League finals. But will they make it? NT BUZZ gets fans to weigh in

Football is dear to every Goan. And their ISL team FC Goa, even dearer. At every match you can find supporters and fans who throng to the stadium in large numbers. And while this time around Goa began the edition well, there was a bleak stint when the team lost heavily to Jamshedpur and Pune. But the Gaurs got back in the field and carried forward the game, regaining the faith their fans had in them. Now, it is a dream for every Goan to see FC Goa lift the ISL Cup, which has eluded them for last four seasons. Here is what some fans have to say about the team performance, the best players so far and more

-Bruno Coutinho, joint director coaching, SAG,  Calangute

Presently, they are playing as a good unit and they have a good game. Brandon has also given good support to Coro with his assist from the wing. The defence was shaky before, but after the change in the defence line, they have become quite strong. At present, Coro is the best and he is the most integral part of the team. Even the goalkeepers are putting up a great game. This is a fair opportunity for Goa to be in the finals and win the league.

After the 5-1 win in the first leg, we have nearly cemented our place in the finals. Hopefully, we will get to see players like Princeton get a chance in the second leg which would be a learning experience for them.

I am super excited about FC Goa making it to the semis. They have performed very well this year and it is very obvious that they will make it to the finals. Under the guidance of Sergio, the team has grown and I believe they are going to bring the cup home.

The team started very well. Then mid way through the tournament there were some concerns regarding the defence. They were letting go off goals. But of late, in the last few matches we have had a clean sheet. Today’s match is just a formality because I don’t see Mumbai scoring 5 goals or coming anywhere close and definitely know we are going to win it. They should focus on winning the finals, they should take this match like any other match and don’t give it too much of importance.

In the team, there are many good players, among which Edu Bedia is quite good. He controls the ball quite well. He knows when to give a hold and give a back pass, his tactics in confusing the opponent is superb. Mourtada Fall in the back line has been superb in the aerial duels. As they say ‘The mighty and tall, Mourtada Fall’. When it comes to any aerial ball, we are confident that he will clear it. He is a real wall to FC Goa. The third player on my list is Ahmed Jahouh. He is excellent in half line, forward line, and back line, and he monitors the entire game. He is a pillar to the team. He has power in his shots. If they play with the same team which they played for the previous game, then they are sure to win. But looking at Sergio, who has an excellent judgement, he will rest some players.
