1-yr of flying high: Manohar Airport achieves milestone

The Manohar International Airport at Mopa which completed a year of operations on Thursday, has handled 3 million passengers with connectivity to 29 destinations in India.

The airport has handled 750 metric tonnes of cargo ranging from pharmaceuticals to vegetables at its temperature-controlled cargo terminal.

Officials of GMR Goa International Airport (GGIAL) said that the airport has set a target of reaching 8 million passengers by the winter schedule of this year.

Commenting on the last one year’s achievements, GGIAL CEO RV Sheshan said, “We are committed to continuous improvements in our operations going forward. I wish to thank and congratulate every team members of our airports including agencies and business associates for their collaborative efforts in these accomplishments.”

The Mopa airport presently connects 25 domestic and four international destinations.

All domestic airlines like Indigo, Akasa Air, Vistara and Spicejet operate from the airport, while the international destinations are served by Air India, Oman Air, Indigo and Tui. International flights at the airport started in July 2023.

The airport offers flight connectivity to 29 destinations in India. The airport sustained air traffic throughout the year defying the traditional decline witnessed during the summer season. The number of domestic destinations connected to Goa has more than doubled now reaching 29, up from14 before the operations began
at Mopa.

The Airports Authority of India has ranked the Mopa airport as the top 15 airports in India, reflecting its rapid ascent in the aviation sector. The airport infrastructure comprises a code E/F compliant runway, extensive taxiways, and a state-of-the-art passenger terminal building.
