St. Xavier’s cultural inaugural held

St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, marked the commencement of cultural activities of its clubs, cells and associations for the academic year 2023-24 with a special programme. The chief guest for the programme was theatre artist Jose Maria Mathais Thomas Ignatius Da Souza.

The cultural inaugural began with an invocation dance performed by member of Goenchi Asmitai Cell and Bhartiya Bhasha Sanskruti Manch, followed by symbolic watering of the plant by the dignitaries signifying healthy beginnings.

The administrator, Fr. Antonio Salema in his welcome address stated that culture is something which defines us. In her address, the principal professor Dr. Blanche Mascarenhas said the purpose of the formation of cells and clubs is to let everyone know that Xavier’s focuses on overall development of students through academics and extra-curricular activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Da Souza focuses on the need of promoting Konkani language in college programmes. He urged the students to patronise tiatr, which would go a long way in its success.

Members of the various cells, clubs and associations presented an entertaining and informative cultural programme consisting of mime on ‘The Earth Belongs to Our Children’ by the Go Green Initiatives and SPARK Club. This was followed by monologue on the value of unity during festivities. The next programme was a skit performance on River Mhadei by Centre for Performing Arts and the Cell for Visual Arts titled, ‘Jeevan Rekha: The Story of a River in Peril’. An orchestra performance was put up by AICUF and Cell for Incubation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship members with medley of pieces in English, Hindi, and Konkani.
