Costantino Crasto’s new tiatr titled ‘Dis Ani Rat’ is a tale of discrimination in society, that unfortunately exists even today in Goa.
The tiatr focuses on two families. Pasku and Carmelin are in the fishing profession. Their two children, Shaina and Dwayne study in the same college as Tamara and Russell, the children of a rich businessman, Mark and his wife Dolla, who thinks she is high society and boasts about her husband’s wealth. However, when it is revealed that the children are in love, the sensible Mark invites Pasku’s family to talk about the wedding arrangements. When they come over, all hell breaks loose between the families. The rest is to be watched on stage, as the tale unfolds to a climax that has its merits.
This is an interesting concept. Many parents do not care about their children’s happiness and worry more of the comments from society. The difference between the families shows. This is a fine script and has been directed well. The setting by Anthony de Ambajim depicts the fisherman’s house and the rich man’s bungalow. Romeo provides the lights. The cast perform well. Carmine is the sober Carmelin and Dolla plays the rich boisterous woman. Good acting from the two. Rosario Botelho is Pasku and Elvis Sequeira is Mark, both understanding husbands who handle their wives with love. Watch the scene where Mark confronts Dwayne, when the latter does not want to marry Tamara. Fine performances come from Antonette de Maina and Jenny as the two daughters, and Batista and Vishal Gawas as the sons. Ben plays the funny neighbour and there is plenty of humour from Evola, Jacob, Steven, Ambe, and Mario. Many humorous situations have been created by the six.
The band comprises of Jayne (saxophone), Edrol, Alloy (trumpets), Tremson (drums, replacing Ivo for this show), Ensly (bass), and Josley (keyboard). Dolla-Evola-Jenny render the opening song presented with some well enacted special scenes. There are other songs from Marcus Vaz, Evola, Santana Crasto, Tony de Ribandar, Benny de Aldona, and others. Solos by Rosario de Benaulim, C.D’Silva, and Francis de Tuem as well as a trio from Evola-Jacob-Ben stand out. Watch this show.
