Tipper truck driver dies in Borim accident

In a tragic road accident reported at Baytakhol, Borim, a 36-year-old tipper truck driver was crushed to death after his vehicle crashed into a roadside valley on the downhill stretch of the Ponda-Margao highway on Tuesday evening. The deceased is identified as Vinayak Chari, resident of Sanguem, who is also the owner of the tipper truck.

According to Ponda police, the incident occurred at around 3.30 p.m. when the truck was proceeding towards Sanguem from the Khorlim depo with empty soft drink bottles made of glass loaded in it. The tipper truck owner, who is an occasional driver,
was alone in the vehicle, which he had chosen to drive as his driver was on leave. As the vehicle reached Baytakhol, Borim the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the roadside valley.

In this accident the driver got trapped in the vehicle, and was crushed inside due to the impact. Fire personnel rushed to the site and tried to rescue the trapped driver by cutting the door of the vehicle, but he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors at the hospital.

In this matter an unnatural death case is registered and further investigation is in progress. Police have also informed that the deceased is survived by his wife and two 8-month old twins.
