Work on Rs 255.69-cr worth Dabolim airport building set in motion

The foundation stone for the Rs 255.69-crore worth extension building of Dabolim airport was laid at a simple function
on Tuesday.

The two-storey building will add an additional 18,300 square metres of build-up area to the existing 65,000 square
metre area.

The new block is expected to increase the passenger handling capacity to 1.3 million passengers per annum from the existing 7.65 million per annum and shall be capable to handle at least 3,250 passengers per hour by adding 500 hundred passengers per hour to the
existing capacity.

The cost of the project for the extension of the centrally air-conditioned building is approximately Rs 255.69 crore. It will have 32 check-in counters taking the total to 96 check-in counters from the existing 64 counters besides male/female toilets including for specially abled, baggage conveyor belts with automatic drop system as part of the integrated terminal building towards the east side which can accommodate large aircrafts like Airbus 321 and
Boeing 737.

Further the new complex will also interchange the domestic and international passenger movement while the structure is expected to be rated with a four-star rating for green rating for integrated habitat assessment system and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
