Damodar College observes Commerce Education Day


Department of commerce and management of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao observed Commerce Education Day by organising an online ‘Commerce Carnival’. The event comprised two sessions by guest speakers, followed by a commerce quiz. Head of department, commerce and management, Shami Pai, briefed participants about Commerce Carnival. 

The first session was on ‘Understanding Capital Markets’ by resource person  and stock market consultant, Purv Shah. The session began with Shah explaining the term ‘trade’ and how stock market trading has evolved from simple exchanges under a banyan tree to the outcry system on the floor stock exchanges to the efficient, quick technological online platform that we see today. Shah threw light on the different types of securities traded in the stock market and explained the various terms that are used in stock market trading. Through a presentation, he explained how trading takes place and briefed the audience about the significance of different colours used in the stock market transactions. The second session was on ‘Business Finance: Challenges and Opportunities’ by resource person, chartered accountant, Pankaj Pai Kakode. 

He started the session by explaining the term business finance and its components. He briefed participants about the various challenges faced in procuring finance and the different factors that the business must evaluate for selecting debt and equity capital. There was also a quiz on accounting, economics and management.
