Former Thivim MLA Vinayak Naik passes away

Former Thivim MLA Vinayak Naik, on Monday, succumbed to COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, 
Bambolim. 

His mortal remains were cremated at  Dattawadi Hindu Crematorium, Mapusa on
Monday noon.

The former Tivim MLA was tested positive for COVID-19 infection, and was shifted to Goa Medical College for treatment, and on Monday he died while undergoing treatment. He was 80 years old.  

An educationist and social worker, Naik was elected as an MLA of the Thivim Constituency for the first time in 1989 on MGP ticket. He was also active in Pirna panchayat and served as sarpanch of Pirna for
around 25 years.

He was also very active in education field and started a couple of schools in Calangute and Colvale. He had served as headmaster of high school and also principal of Dr Ambedkar Higher
Secondary School.

He was a strong supporter of Marathi language and had also taken part in the agitation for Official Language status
for Marathi.
