Cuncolim police transfer rape case to Margao women police cell




With no lady police sub-inspector at Cuncolim police station, a case registered against a native of Jharkhand for allegedly raping a minor girl in the Cuncolim industrial estate area has been
transferred to women police cell, Margao, for investigation.

The police disclosed the name of the alleged accused involved in the case as Ranjit Pal, a native of Jharkhand, and resident of Cuncolim industrial estate area.

The Cuncolim police had registered the case under Section 376 of the IPC, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 against the alleged accused, and the same has been transferred to women police cell, Margao for further investigation.

The alleged accused Ranjit Pal has been arrested and lodged in police custody on 13-day remand on Wednesday, said police, adding the victim girl, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was residing along with her mother and two sisters in a rented room in the industrial estate area, Cuncolim while the alleged accused Ranjit Pal was her neighbour, and was residing along with his friend, both workers at a unit in the IDC Cuncolim.

The police said that the alleged accused developed friendship with the victim girl and raped her which was not known to her family members, however, it came to light some days back. The mother of the victim girl has lodged a complaint alleging that her minor daughter has been raped, the police added.
