COVID cases continue to surge in Goa

The state continued to report an alarmingly high number of coronavirus infections, as 527 fresh cases of the COVID-19 pandemic detected on Wednesday, taking the tally of confirmed cases above the 60,000-mark.

As per details shared by the Directorate of Health Services of the 527 persons who tested positive for the pandemic on Wednesday, around 51 of them have been hospitalised at different health facilities.

Panaji, Margao, Candolim, Ponda and Porvorim also continued to be the major contributor to the massive surge in daily new COVID-19 cases.

The COVID death count rose to 840 with two more patients losing the battle against the virus in the last 24 hours.

The confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stand at 60,229 of which 2,858 are active while 56,531 patients have defeated the deadly virus. Around 138 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease on Thursday.

According to the DHS, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of other urban health centres stand as follows: Margao- 295, Vasco – 146 cases, Panaji- 244 and Mapusa – 145 cases.

While, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of community health centres are as follows: Sankhali – 68 cases, Bicholim – 73 cases, Pernem – 44 cases, Valpoi – 15 cases, Curchorem – 51 cases and Canacona – 32 cases.

And, active positive cases in the jurisdictions of primary health centres stand as follows: Aldona – 50 cases, Betki – 11 cases, Candolim – 238 cases, Cansarvanem – 24 cases, Colvale – 36 cases, Corlim – 93 cases, Chimbel – 71 cases, Siolim – 102 cases, Porvorim – 273 cases, Mayem – 15 cases,  Balli – 23 cases, Cansaulim – 86 cases, Chinchinim – 58 cases, Cortalim – 136 cases, Curtorim – 47 cases, Loutolim – 49 cases, Marcaim – 12 cases, Quepem – 23 cases, Sanguem – 64 cases, Shiroda- 36 cases, Dharbandora – 24 cases, Ponda – 217 cases and Navelim – 36 cases.
