Duler: Goa United Sports Academy registered a narrow 2-1 win over Compassion FC in the Goa Football Association Vedanta Women’s Football League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.
With play being restricted to the midfield, there were little chances in the first session. However Goa United SA took the lead from a set-piece. Tanvi Parulekar scored from a direct freekick giving no chance for the keeper Rhea Noronha. The winners led 1-0 at the break.
Crossing ends the teams showed urgency, but the strikers couldn’t get past the opponents defenders.
But Compassion were handed a chance to score their first goal of the tournament and also get the equaliser when Rhea Noronha fouled Sushmita Bandekar in the area. Referee Pravin Naik made no hesitation to point towards the spot. Skipper Selina D’Souza kept her composure to coolly convert the spot kick.
However the determined Goa United regained their lead just before the second half water break once again from a set-piece. Tanvi sent in a good delivery from the corner which bounced couple of times in the box and found Mikayla Pinto, who had little work to guide the ball into the net and she gracefully did it.
Compassion had a chance late in the stoppage time when Sushmita Bandekar squared the ball to substitute Rita Patre, who took a brilliant first touch to get in a good position, only to see her shot travel straight to the keeper.
Goa United’s Tanvi Parulekar was adjudged the player of the match for her brilliant display after registering a goal and an assist and Dr Fenton De Souza presented her the award.
