Promoting the Konkani language



Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr, Alto Porvorim held its 31st Annual Antonio Pereira Konknni Puroskar ceremony.

Chief guest for the programme was Varsha Kamat. At the outset, a minute of silence was observed to pay respect to the deceased Konkani stalwart, late Fr Vasco do Rego and Konkani promoter and activist late Fr Conceicao D’silva. The programme began with the National Anthem followed by a small Konkani bhakti song.

During the ceremony a number of awards were presented at the hands of the chief guest. The Jack Sequeira Konknni Puroskar 2020 was awarded to Menino Almeida; the Valerio Carvalho Konknni Puroskar 2020 was awarded to Silvestrina Pereira; the Maria Afonso Konknni Puroskar 2020 was awarded to Sr Molly Fernandes, sfn; the Late Fr Casmiro De Mello Konknni Puroskar 2020 was awarded to Fr Bolmax Pereira; and the Antonio Pereira Konknni Puroskar 2021 was awarded to Pandharinath Lotlikar

Along with these awards the Kendr also presented scholarships to meritorious and deserving students. Scholarships were conferred to Deepak Periyasamy and Chandani Sharma from Government High School, Betim; Celine da Cunha of St Cruz Higher Secondary School, St Cruz; Milly Cleavina Rodrigues of Presentation Matoshree Indirabai High School, Ponda; Roneisha Fernandes of Chubby Cheeks High School, Porvorim, Pilerne; and Josefina Quadros of Holy Family School, Porvorim.

The youth of Chicalim parish under the guidance of their parish priest, Fr Bolmax Pereira rendered three songs during the programme. A reflection before each song was recited by Fr Ryan Estibeiro. The function also featured the Santa Cruz Brass Band led by Alvito.

The SOD research bulletin volume 23 was released during the function at the hands of the chief guest. The articles were edited by Fr Pratap Naik SJ, while Swara Pednekar assisted in the typesetting of the same.
