12-member gang now held for kidnapping Punjab jobseeker

Panaji: The 12 accused, who were arrested by Vasco police in connection with the alleged racket that involved extortion of money from gullible overseas jobseekers and kidnapping of an Afghan national have now been arrested by the Porvorim police in connection with kidnapping of a man from Punjab.

The accused have been remanded to four-day police custody, informed a police officer.

Last month, in a joint operation conducted by teams from Anti-Terrorist Squad, Crime Branch, Pernem and Vasco police, the 12 accused were arrested, while a minor was also apprehended. They were operating from a bungalow in Porvorim, informed police. During the raid, the police had rescued two persons – an Afghan national and a person from Punjab.

Police were probing the kidnapping case of the Afghan national, which was registered at the Vasco police station.

After the rescue, a second case of kidnapping was registered at the Porvorim police station. Earlier, the accused were arrested by Vasco police and later remanded to judicial custody. The minor was sent to protective custody in Apna Ghar.

The accused had rented the Porvorim bungalow and their agents in Delhi allegedly lured innocent people, who wanted to travel to Canada for employment, police had said. Subsequently, the accused would extort money from the jobseekers after keeping them captive in the bungalow.

In the second case of kidnapping, registered at Porvorim, the police have now arrested the accused Alex D’Souza (29), Robinson D’Souza (23), both from Pernem, Ashish Tripathi (30) from Uttar Pradesh, Rajat Kalyan (22), Saahil Kalyan (23), Pradeep Kumar (32), Sanju Singh (28), Vijay (27), Anil Kumar (35), Anurag Kumar (19), Vishal Goswami (21), Sushil Singh alias Rishab (31) all from Haryana.

Police investigation had revealed that the main accused Sushil Singh alias Rishab had organised his gang members in Goa.
