Truckers stop ore transportation to Panchwadi over weighing system

Truck owners block ore transportation at Digas-Panchwadi on Wednesday in presence of police personnel.

Tension prevailed in Digas-Panchwadi area of Shiroda village on Wednesday as truck owners stopped ore transportation from Tollem Mines to Digas-Panchwadi demanding proper implementation of empty tare weight system, which is presently operated only for 1 hour on Mondays. Around 70 ore-laden trucks were not allowed to unload at the Kapshem jetty.

After a day-long tension and stoppage of ore transportation, deputy collector Ponda held a meeting with the villagers in the evening and assured to resolve the issue this week and that until then no ore transportation will be allowed from Tollem Mines to Digas-Panchwadi.

As per information, the new weighing system has been introduced recently at the mine at Panchwadi only wherein empty tare weight of the truck is measured only on Monday of every week from 7 am to 8 am at the main gate weighbridge at Digas-Panchwadi due to which truck owners who are unable to weigh their vehicle do not get a trip for that week and thus are left without any business.

According to locals, this system is implemented only at the Panchawadi mine while other mines in the state operate under weigh bridge system everyday at specified time and truckers can get a trip by weighing their vehicles any day of the week.
