GPL match between Salgaocar FC, Sesa FA postoponed

PANAJI: The Goa Football Association (GFA), through a press release on Monday, announced the postponement of Round 4, Match No 23 of Selvel Goa Professional League 2020-2021 between Salgaocar Football Club and Sesa Football Academy scheduled to be played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Tuesday, February 23. The postponement has been necessitated as one of the team’s player has been reported to be COVID-19 positive following the COVID-19 RT-PCR test, it added.

NZ beat Aussies by 53 runs in 1st T20

CHRISTCHURCH: Devon Conway made 99 not out from 59 balls to lead New Zealand to a 53-run win over Australia on Monday in the first of five Twenty20 internationals. The South African-born Conway improved on his previous high score of 65 in T20 internationals, coming to the crease when New Zealand was 11-2 and leaving unbeaten when it was 184-5 after winning the toss and batting first. Australia were all out for 131 in reply.

Fit-again Umesh Yadav added to India’s squad for last two Tests

AHMEDABAD: Pacer Umesh Yadav was on Monday added to India’s squad for the last two Tests against England after he passed a fitness test, while Shardul Thakur was released to compete in the ongoing Vijay Hazare one-day Championship. The third Test, a day/nighter, starts here on Wednesday. Umesh had suffered a calf muscle injury during the Melbourne Test against Australia in December, ruling him out for the rest of that series.

CA limits use of its players for advertising during IPL

NEW DELHI: Cricket Australia (CA) doesn’t want its players to feature in advertisements promoting betting, fast food, alcohol and tobacco brands during the next edition of Indian Premier League. Among other restrictions, CA said not more than one player from a Big Bash League (BBL) side and a state team should be used in advertising campaigns.

Rijiju launches four infrastructure
projects at SAI Bangalore

NEW DELHI: Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday laid the foundation of a synthetic athletics track, a 330-bed girls hostel, kitchen and dining hall along with a gymnasium complex at Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Bangalore centre. The synthetic athletic track coming up at the centre is an 8-lane 400m track with two additional straight lanes. It is an IAAF certified track for Class 1, Category 5. Beside this, the project includes 500m clay track and a 100m sand track for high performance training.
