The High Powered Committee constituted for setting up of Solid Waste Management Project at Sonsoddo, held its meeting on Monday.
However, no major decision was taken during the
meeting with regards to resolving Sonsoddo waste issue immediately.
The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired the meeting which was attended by the Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, the Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo, Leader of Opposition and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai and other officials.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Chief Minister said that treatment of Sonsoddo garbage and related issues were reviewed and discussed during the meeting.
“Issues pertaining to Sonsoddo garbage dump will be resolved soon,” he said.
Kamat said that no major decisions have been taken in view of the code of conduct.
“We have offered various suggestions and have asked the government to prepare a plan of action,” he said.
Another meeting will be held later on to discuss the detailed plan of action, he added.
The Margao MLA also informed that they have suggested to set up only one waste treatment plant on a trial basis instead of three.
Lobo said that the two bio-digesters will be set up at Sonsoddo and a big shed will be erected on the reclaimed land.
“We are working on resolving garbage issue at Sonsoddo,” he asserted.
The Fatorda MLA Sardesai said that inspite of having Goa Waste Management Corporation, the state government has failed to resolve the garbage issue at Sonsoddo.
The Curtorim MLA said that he was not happy with what was discussed during the meeting.
“People want to remove legacy garbage dump first from the Sonsoddo yard. But this is not happening,” he added.
