Nerul resident loses over Rs 44,000 to online scam


Panaji: A person from Nerul was allegedly cheated to the tune of over Rs 44,000 by online scamsters under the pretext of validating his PayTm account. Porvorim police have registered an FIR against unknown person under IPC 420 against unknown person.

Referring to the case, the police said that unknown persons induced the complainant by sending SMS on the complainant’s mobile phone that his paytm account has to be revalidated. Thereafter unknown accused called the complainant and induced him to share OTP received on complainant mobile phone on the false pretext of validating paytm account. Upon sharing the OTP, an amount of Rs 44,440 was withdrawn, informed police.
