Sattari villagers to hold rally tomorrow over land ownership

Valpoi: Villagers from Sattari taluka will hold a peaceful protest rally at Hathwada junction at Valpoi on January 26, demanding that they be bestowed with ownership right of the land in Sattari taluka.

Representatives of various organisations, which  have extended support to the rally, told media persons at Valpoi on Sunday that  the villagers rallying under the banner of Sattari Bhumiputra Sanghtna will hold the  peaceful rally on  January  26 (Republic Day) at  Valpoi to  demand  bestowment  on them ownership of land in the taluka, which they claim belongs to their ancestors.

Social activist Ranjit Rane said the government has turned a blind eye to their long-pending demand of land ownership.

“…It’s high time we fought for our right. We are demanding ownership of land that belongs to our forefathers. Thousands of people from all the Sattari villages will gather at the Hathwada junction on January 26. At the rally, we will decide the future course of action,” Ranjit Rane said.

Rajesh Gondar claimed that 71 per cent of the land in the taluka is under forest reserve,  and hence it becomes difficult for the villagers to carry out any occupational activities including farming.

The villagers slammed the BJP government and local MLA Vishwajit Rane for not resolving the land issue, which led to an intense agitation against the IIT project at Melauli village.
