Margao: In sixty six villages of Salcete particularly in Margao in the year 2020, 15 cases of house breaking during night, 11 cases of house breaking during broad daylight, 10 cases of ordinary thefts, 7 cases of chain snatching and 30 cases of other thefts took place.
House breaking thefts during day and night, burglary, motor vehicle theft, have become common in Salcete and cases continue to rise particularly in Margao.
Margao being the commercial center, of all these categories of thefts reported in Salcete most of the cases registered by Margao police have remained undetected particularly thefts reported in six premises behind Margao police station.
According to the information out of 11 cases of house breaking thefts during day 4 were reported in Margao with no detection, 5 were reported in Maina Curtorim of which 1 was detected. 1 case was reported in Cuncolim and detected, 1 case was reported at Fatorda which remained undetected, while out of 15 cases of house breaking during night 5 were reported in Margao and 3 were detected, another 5 were reported in Maina Curtorim with no detection. 3 were reported at Fatorda with 1 detection and 1 was reported in Colva and detected. 1 case was reported in Cuncolim which has remained undetected.
10 cases of house thefts were reported of which 4 were reported in Colva and 3 were detected, another 4 were reported in Fatorda and 3 were detected and 2 were reported in Margao and 1 was detected. No house theft was reported in Maina Curtorim and Cuncolim police station.
During this year 30 other thefts took place in Salcete of which a maximum number of 9 were reported in Margao, 5 each in Maina Curtorim and Colva and Fatorda police station jurisdiction respectively and 6 were reported in Cuncolim.
Out of 7 cases of chain snatching reported this year a maximum number of 4 cases were reported in Margao with one detection while 2 were reported in Maina Curtorim with zero detection and 1 case was reported in Fatorda with no detection. No cases were reported in Colva and Cuncolim.
