Health workers administered doses at Chicalim sub-district hospital

The health authorities on Saturday began the COVID-19 vaccination drive at Chicalim sub-district hospital.

The drive began in the presence of deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate of Mormugao Sachin Desai and health authorities attached to Chicalim sub-district hospital. Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida was also present and took stock of the situation.

Almeida said that “it is an honour that the country under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced the vaccination drive starting with the healthcare workers. The vaccine will help save lives of the people. I am also grateful to those who achieved success by overcoming difficulties and launched the vaccines to save the people from COVID-19.”

The deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Desai said that “the vaccination drive began smoothly at Chicalim sub-district hospital with the first doses administered to the frontline workers from the health department. In all, 100 health workers were identified for administering the vaccine in the first phase.”

Dr Vivek Pillai, attached to Chicalim sub-district hospital, disclosed that the vaccination drive initiated by the health authorities in Goa will cut the transmission of the disease.

“The main propose of administering the vaccine is to cut the transmission and decrease complications of the virus,” stated Dr Pillai and added that the cases of COVID-19 in Vasco have drastically come down.
